Our brand strategy process

Five stages. Zero decoration. All built to break the sameness.

Most agencies hand you a service menu and call it a process. This is what we actually do, in the order it actually happens, and why skipping a step is how good work ends up looking like everyone else's.

Why a brand strategy process, not a menu

A menu lets you pick what sounds good. A method makes you go through what actually works. Word of mouth isn't a tactic you bolt onto a finished brand. It's the result of five decisions made in the right order, by people who know which one comes first. That order is what makes this a brand strategy process rather than a shopping list.

Yet most agencies skip straight to stage four, the part that's loud and billable, and call the result strategy. That's how an entire industry ends up producing brands that all sound confident, all look clean, and all say absolutely nothing anyone would repeat. Sameness, just better lit.

01

Stage 1: Conceptualisation

Every business already has a sentence worth repeating. Most haven't found it, because nobody's asked the right question yet. We don't start with "what do you want to say." We start with "what would someone say about you if they were a little drunk and being honest." That sentence already exists, somewhere in how your actual clients talk about you. We go find it before we build anything on top of it.

What this breaks: the assumption that positioning is something you invent. It isn't. It's something you uncover.

02

Stage 2: Design & Branding

A true sentence with a forgettable shape is a rumour nobody repeats correctly. This stage is where the sentence gets a form strong enough to survive being passed from one person to the next without losing its edge, and different enough that nobody mistakes you for the business next door. We're not precious about pretty. We're obsessive about whether it travels intact.

What this breaks: the template. If your branding could belong to any business in your industry, it isn't branding, it's decoration.

03

Stage 3: Brand strategy

Most strategy decks tell you how to get attention. We'd rather work out what guarantees you never get any, wrong room, wrong sentence, wrong moment, and engineer those failures out before we engineer anything in. Strategy here is disciplined elimination wearing a nicer suit. It's where the sentence and the shape meet the actual people who'll repeat them.

What this breaks: the broad-audience instinct. Trying to be relevant to everyone is the fastest way to be repeatable to no one.

04

Stage 4: Design Execution

This is where most agencies start, which tells you something about most agencies. So by the time we're here, the hard thinking is done. This stage just makes it visible: campaigns, content, the work your audience actually trips over in their feed. It doesn't get smarter at this stage. It gets loud, in exactly the right key.

What this breaks: the idea that more output equals more impact. Volume without the first three stages underneath it is just noise with a budget behind it.

05

Stage 5: Video Testimonials

Not a deliverable. A receipt. If the first four stages worked, your own client says the sentence we found back in stage one, unprompted, on camera, in their own words. In other words, we don't produce testimonials so much as go looking for the moment one was already about to happen. This is also where the system has its own dedicated home: visit videotestimonials.com.au for pricing and the full system, no filter, no funnel tricks.

What this breaks: the idea that proof is something you write yourself. The only proof that counts is the kind we couldn't have scripted.

Already have a concept? Join the brand strategy process where you are.

Not every business walks in at stage one. Plenty of our clients arrive with a concept already in hand, needing design, branding, or a strategy gut-check rather than the full process from scratch. That's fine, because the Story Clarity Session exists specifically to work out which stage you're actually standing in, not which one a five-step diagram says you should be at.

Start with a Story Clarity Session

It's paid, on purpose. The moment we stop charging for our time is the moment we start attracting people who don't value theirs either. You'll walk away with insight and a clear next step either way, whether we ever work together again or not.
